The Custom Z is Yamaha's jazz-focused professional tenor. The first 82Z came out in 2003, and Yamaha rebuilt it from neck to bell for the 82ZII in 2013. It's free-blowing and flexible with a lot of projection, and it has the even intonation and dependable keywork Yamaha is known for.
This example has minor blemishes throughout but remains in excellent condition. All pads, corks, and felts are in great shape.
What sets the 82ZII apart
- V1 neck: A wide bore taper gives a free-blowing feel and a lot of flexibility.
- Nickel silver neck receiver: A rigid, custom-style receiver for a focused tone and quick response.
- One-piece hand-hammered bell: Craftsmen hammer the bell from a single sheet of brass, which ties it more closely to the body.
- Hand engraving after lacquering: The engraving is cut after the lacquer goes on, so it stands out against the brass.
- Ball-joint octave mechanism: Gives smoother, quicker octave key action.
- Metal resonators: Give strong response and a wide dynamic range.
- Teardrop front F key: Adjustable to your preference.
- Redesigned left-hand seesaw key: Designed for a more comfortable feel.
- Separate key guards with adjustable screw-cap stoppers
- Mother-of-pearl key touches
- Adjustable thumb hook
- Auxiliary keys: High F# and front F
- Finish: Gold lacquer
